‘The Originals’ Scoop: Daniel Gillies Previews ‘The Beginning Of A War’

Hollywood Life

Daniel teases a ‘new dawn’ for Elijah & Klaus on Thursday’s ‘Vampire Diaries,’ as the brothers do battle in the Big Easy.

The April 25 episode of The Vampire Diaries will find Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) temporarily relocating to New Orleans, setting the stage for what will likely become a spin-off series on The CW next season. But before the hour is over, Daniel tells HollywoodLife.com, you’ll see the Mikaelsons come together like never before — just in time for “the beginning of a war.”

“It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen,” Daniel tells me of the backdoor pilot. “It’s an amazing episode of television, it’s just monumental. Joseph and I worked very hard on [the brothers’] relationship, to bring as much history and depth and tragedy to them as we could. They’re cursed to walk this earth together, and now they’re searching for a clean slate. The tabula rasa. The new dawn.”

As for that whole “war” thing I mentioned earlier, Daniel says “The Originals” will feel like “Game of Thrones-meets-The Vampire Diaries,” as Klaus attempts to reclaim his former glory.

“There’s an established hierarchy that’s been [in New Orleans] for over a century in the absence of Klaus,” Daniel explains. “You’ll see Klaus’ desire to resurrect his kingdom, and Elijah’s desire to see to it that that happens. Elijah is kind of the General McArthur.”

New ‘Vampire Diaries’ Video: Elijah Will ‘Definitely Be Back’ In Season 4

Hollywood Life

Daniel Gillies’ handsome mug addresses fans in a brand-new interview, promising more Original hotness this fall.

Regardless of whether you consider yourself to be Team Damon or Team Stefan, I’m pretty sure we’re all Team Elijah. In this new video, just released by The CW, Daniel Gillies talks about playing The Vampire Diaries‘ best-groomed Original — and what fans can look forward to as we edge closer to the Oct. 11 season premiere.

“Elijah will definitely be back,” Daniel says. “I think as long as there are vampires on this show, I think Elijah will be back. With four deaths under my belt, I think I’m pretty much bulletproof at this point.”

'Vampire Diaries' Star Daniel Gillies Admits There's 'Sexual Tension' Between Elena & Elijah! Do You See It Too?

Hollywood Life

Let’s forget Damon & Stefan for a minute. The show’s new will-they-won’t-they couple is totally Elena & Elijah.

The idea of a romantic relationship between Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Klaus‘ brother Elijah (Daniel Gillies) on The Vampire Diaries might seem crazy at first, but take a minute to really chew it over. There’s a spark, and you know it. Daniel knows it too, and he recently revealed to HollywoodLife.com that he’s a total Elena-Elijah shipper. “It’s dangerous,” Daniel admits, “But I think there’s something intoxicating about the combination of Elena’s purity and Elijah’s ancient resonance.”

Daniel says he finds the pairing to be “exciting and interesting,” and that it works on multiple levels.

“She represents something magnificent to him, something he doesn’t see very often in people,” he tells us. “The fans are right; There’s a resistance and a purity, and the sexual tension becomes pyre between them. Perhaps people think Elena looks safe around him. It’s the same reason people want to see her with Damon, but it’s on a different level, because Elijah’s got an older spirit.”

Daniel says he was surprised, at first, to hear that so many fans like the idea of Elena getting with Elijah: “I thought it might seem creepy,” he admits, “because I’m [13 years] older than her.”

But I’m pretty sure Elena’s “daddy issues” are thoroughly established at this point.
